Long Days and Green Ways
As we step into June, our days stretch out in a glorious abundance of light. On 21st June, we mark the summer solstice - the longest day of the year. It is a season when nature is in full bloom, fields are lush, and the warmth of the sun reminds us of the sheer generosity of God’s provision for us.
For Christians, this peak of daylight is more than just a seasonal shift. It is a powerful visual reminder of the First Chapter of Genesis, where God looked at everything He had made and declared it "very good." The vibrant life surrounding us this month is a living testimony to the Creator's artistry.
However, this abundance also brings a profound responsibility. As followers of Christ, we are called to be stewards, not consumers, of this beautiful planet. Care for creation is not a modern political trend; it is a deeply rooted Christian duty. In the Bible, humans are tasked with tending and keeping the earth. When we neglect our environment, we neglect a sacred trust.
This June, let the long hours of daylight inspire our stewardship. Let us use the extra sunshine to connect with the world around us. Possibilities might include choosing to walk or cycle instead of driving, planting wild flowers to support struggling pollinators, or simply reducing our plastic waste. By making small, intentional changes, we honour the God who created the very light we enjoy.
As we take opportunities to sit in the evening sunshine this month, let us take moments to give thanks for the warmth, the light, and the earth beneath our feet. Let us pray for the wisdom and resolve to protect it, ensuring that future generations can also marvel at the wonders of God's creation. Happy June.
With grace, peace and every blessing
